What is your full name? Faye Diane Kilday Where and when were you born? I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand on the 12th of February 1973.
What was the most significant thing to happen to you as a child? My father died from cancer when I was 6 (he was 39). That's him in the photo above - we share the same smile! Dear Dad When you are near There's a chill in the air. I sense you watching me - Inspiring my poetry. Someday we'll meet again, But till then I'll remember you in photos and memories; And although my life's not always a breeze I'm determined to make it worthwhile. (Don't forget - we share the same smile!) With love always - Faye Did you always know you wanted to be a poet? Yes! I wrote my first poem when I was 5 and it felt so natural that I simply continued writing poetry. At High School I can remember being called into the career counsellor's office and being asked to name some careers I was interested in pursuing. I said, "A singer, a songwriter, an actress, a model, and a poet." The counsellor said, "Now choose one!" I replied, "A poet," and was promptly told that being a poet was not a viable career option. I was told to go away and think about a 'real career' I could do (eg: nothing arty) and come back the following week...which I never did!
Have you done anything else besides being a poet? I left school after being a finalist in a nationwide model search contest. I modelled for the next 5 years (see photo above), but at that time in my life I had social phobia which prevented me from going overseas to further my career. So I applied for, and got accepted on to a year-long photography course, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I sold some of my photos in an exhibition but I didn't like the commercial side of photography so I decided to keep photography as a hobby. I've worked as a portrait model for an art class - you need the patience of a saint, but it's interesting (and surreal) seeing the finished paintings. The worst job I've done was being a secretary - I only lasted a week in that one! What do you enjoy doing, besides writing poetry? I enjoy writing lyrics, but that probably falls into the same category as writing poetry. I enjoy listening to music, photography, reading, learning, star-gazing and being in nature. I love anything that's creative and I'm fascinated by all things paranormal. Why do you call your poetry "Angel-Inspired Poetry" ? Because that's what it is! The poems in my book Angels Speaking came to me during a period of 'dark days' in my life. Those poems flowed through me with love and after they were written I just knew they were a gift from the angels. When I was pondering on what to call my business I heard the name Angel-Inspired Poetry very clearly in my mind. A few days later an acquaintance said that he'd lent a copy of my first book of poems, With Love, to his friend and when he asked his friend what she thought of my poems she replied..."I love them...it's poetry made for sharing!"...and so my slogan was created!
Do you have any pets? Yes, I have a cat (see photo above). His name is Lovecat and he's beautiful (as you can see!). I got him in 1992, when he was 4 weeks old. What inspires you? Lots of things! But number one is music. I love music. But I'm also inspired by nature, space, gardens, works of art, creative people and anyone who's overcome adversity and prospered! I love the night, and I create most of my poems in the evening and early morning when I feel most inspired and can hear the angels speaking! Simple things inspire me like birds eating bread on the lawn and dew on a rose. Inspiration is everywhere if you open your eyes, your ears and your heart. I am also inspired by people who have told me that my poetry has helped them in some way (thank you!). In 1989 I got a phone call from a lady who had read one of my poems in a magazine. She went to a lot of trouble to find my telephone number, but she said that her baby son was seriously ill and if it wasn't for the love and support of her best friend she didn't know how she would have coped. The poem she read in the magazine was one I had written earlier that year called A Special Friend, and she said that when she read it she felt especially blessed to have such a person in her life. She wanted to thank me for writing it and reminding her just how fortunate she was. What she didn't realize was that I was the fortunate one...her phone call really inspired me and kept me going when I felt like giving up (I think she was really an angel in disguise!). What advice would you give people who are reading this? For God's sake (and I mean that literally) Follow Your Heart. And finally, finish this sentence: It's important to... have fun! God's Promise - My ADD Journey In 2004 I discovered I have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). I wrote an article about my journey and challenges with ADD, and how I faced my fears to travel to Australia to see Michael Crawford in concert in 2006. My article was published in a spiritual magazine in New Zealand. You can read it here. |
